How do I care for my bleached hair?

The first steps in avoiding damage:

  1. Test your water, some minerals in water or the type of water you have can cause damage and even cause your hair to be brassy.

  2. Try to avoid washing your hair everyday, make sure to incorporate dry shampoos into your daily routine and make set wash days.

  3. SPF is everything! Not only should you be protecting your skin from the sun, but your hair as well! Using products that include SPF can be extremely important in damage prevention that the sun can cause.

  4. Incorporate gentle hairstyles to avoid breakage in your hair after bleaching because styles such as tight ponytails and using tight elastics can cause hair to break or rip out.

  5. Use minimal heat on your hair, hot tools can cause major hair breakage and dryness.

  6. Always read the ingredients! Some products claim to nourish and moisturize your hair, yet do the complete opposite and dry out your new bleached hair.

What products should I be using for my bleached hair?

Using products that will be good to your bleached hair is essential to making it last. Healthy hair is necessary and using the products to assist in the process is more than helpful. Four products that we carry here at VT Salon came up in each stylist's recommendations. These products are Sebastian Dark Oil, Pureology Colour Fanatic Spray, Wella Fusionplex Conditioner and our Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo and conditioner set.

Sebastian Dark Oil is a lightweight oil used to smooth and style hair while nourishing it from the inside out. Not only does this product smell good, but it also makes such a difference with how your hair feels. You will be able to feel the difference it can make in your hair just after one use, even after applying heat!

Our Pureology Colour Fanatic Spray is something that’s applied before heat while your hair is still damp. This product primes your hair for heat, works as a detangler, protects your hair from any damage that can occur and of course adds shine. While this is 100% vegan, it also has less than 1% of synthetic fragrances. Some key ingredients in this product are camelina oil, coconut oil and olive oil which all nourish your hair, bleached or not.

If you’re looking for a more heavy duty product for intense repair, Wella Fusionplex conditioner is the product you need. With its silk amino acids that protect against breakage and damage, detangling hair as well as leaving it smooth is a given. This product recovers hair fibers at both micro and macro levels, assisting in both a little or major damage. Fusionplex conditioner, as well as shampoo, leave your hair feeling renewed, smooth, elastic and resilient.

Redken Color Extend Blondage shampoo and conditioner is a color depositing as well as a protective purple shampoo for blonde hair. This formula includes citric acid to repair each hair and violet pigments to remove any brass color. So if you want your blonde to stay cool and bright, using a purple shampoo is essential in maintaining your desired shade.
